Iz the Wiz, RIP

eiresol | June 19, 2009

Just heard that Iz the Wiz passed away on Wednesday. After being rushed to the hospital he died of heart failure.
One of the true kings of New York City graffiti in the 1970’s and 80’s, and without question one of NYC’s most prolific writers, he will be missed.

I remember reading of him having serious kidney failure in the early 90’s which was presumed to have been brought on by spray paint fumes, before the days of led-free paint. It seems this was the start of a long period of ill health.

Rest in peace…

I'm sure I'll come back every now and then, just to let people know I'm still around!

Mr. Doze

Tron | June 8, 2009

Used to love seeing this guy’s pieces. Good to see him pull off a nice piece after a few years away.

a youthful aesthetic!

eirsol | June 5, 2009

A slow news day in the leafy D6 suburbs?
This shit is hilarious….

Dublin based graffiti artist Maser has pledged his support to local election candidate Bryce Evans. Evans is a first time candidate under the People before Profit Alliance and is running in the Pembroke-Rathmines ward.

Maser – famed as ‘Dublin’s Banksy’- is working on a piece of street art to encourage locals to vote for Evans on June 5th. In a statement Evans said ‘I am a fan of Maser’s artwork; he provides Dublin with a youthful aesthetic and I am delighted to have him on board’.

Maser said he had never voted before, but was backing Evans because he was ‘an honest and genuine guy’. The artwork will occupy an unspecified, prominent location on Dublin ’s southside and is expected to be completed soon.

from the Socialist Workers Party site.

So presumably there’s a shiny new piece by Dublin’s Banksy adorning the exterior of The Bernard Shaw this fine evening.

Well, it seems this economic downturn has had a knock-on effect to frequency of my posts to this blog, but I stumbled upon this recently-old gem on Acrid’s flickr, and just thought I’d share.
